Beschreibung

Winemaker´s Comment:

Painted Fields Old Vine Zinfandel pays homage to our farmers who believed in Zinfandel and held these vineyards for decades, and in some cases, for over a century. Our Old Vine Zinfandel is sourced from different vineyards throughout the Sierra Foothills AVA region to compose a beautiful, elegant red wine similar to what was likely produced here in the early days before Zinfandel wine became a jammy fruit bomb. 2020 is a well-balanced, layered, and seamless wine offering tons of fresh blackberry and raspberry flavors wrapped in a bracing texture of fine-grained tannins and bright acidity.

Vintage notes:

The Sierra Foothills region's warm weather signaled an early start to the season, followed by a mild summer with only one or two heat spells. Berries were small, with concentrated flavors, which led to lower yields of Zinfandel, especially from the older vineyards planted over 100 years ago. The fruit retained its acidity, and the Phenological ripeness was excellent, leading to fully flavored wines at lower Brix. I think 2020 will be one of our best vintages of the last decade, and the wines will be age-worthy up to 10 years.

Bewertungen (Auszüge):

WINE ENTHUSIAST: 90

This big, full-bodied Zin offers a mouthful of chewy tannins that feel purposeful and balanced because of the excellent fruit concentration and well-integrated oak character. Its engaging aromas and flavors recall blackberry, black cherry, black plum, chocolate, star anise and tobacco. Pair this with a juicy burger. (Veggie and vegan burgs will work too!)

Zinfandel Chronicle by Tom Lee:

2020 Painted Fields Old Vine Zinfandel – Crimson in color. 14.7% ABV. 93% Zinfandel and 7% Barbera. From a number of Sierra Foothills Vineyards including Original Grandpere. Gorgeous nose of red fruits, peach and anise. Medium body with perfect acidity. Bursting with bright, juicy fruits. Strawberry, raspberry and pepper on the palate. Nice length on the finish. Super Zinfandel that is very approachable and the price point is noteworthy. Best over the next 3-5 years. $28 at the winery and retail. My rating: 93 points.

Andis Wines is a boutique winery established in 2010 and located in the heart of Amador County. Andis wines come from the Estate Vineyard and other acclaimed vineyards in the Sierra Foothills AVA. Wines are made by Mark Fowler and the consulting team led by Philippe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky. All wines are Estate Produced and Bottled. Painted Hills is the second label from Andis although by no means are the wines of lesser quality.
