Beschreibung

5 STARS Gourmet Traveller Wine, 2012 Editorial:
"a plush style with a good degree of complexity. Blue fruits, lavender and violet on the nose, with a nice savoury edge. The flesh and oak are in harmony with the body. It's ripe, but not over the top."

Vintage:

The 2010 growing season was generally quite mild with good winter rains and an early budburst after a warmer than average winter. The region experienced perfect conditions until a short period of intense hot weather in November 2009 with 7 out of 9 days above 40C. This was followed by later Spring rain which refreshed and re-hydrated canopies and led into a very mild January / February, offering ideal conditions for veraison and ripening. The fruit was harvested in excellent condition-colour, flavour, good acidity and fine ripe tannins.

Vineyard(s): "Norjan" Vineyard (Doole), Block 74 im McLaren Vale

Fruit for the 2010 Reserve Shiraz was sourced from Norm Doole's California Road Vineyard from the 74 Block. This small block was the first block to be replanted in this vineyard in 1974 and produces fruit of unique concentration and complexity.

'A deep, dark and dense wine, showing lavish levels of sweet black fruits, mocha oak and a fresh sea salt tang for contrast; full-bodied and full throttle in every regard, yet showing a lightness of touch and fineness of tannin that provides a long and even finish.'

91 POINTS Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
"Black fruit, vanilla cream and spice, sage oil and gentle earthiness. Full bodied, smooth and supple, with plenty of dark chocolate, nougat and a distinct saline tang to close. A mouthful of black wine.' this is all high class deliciousness; sexy, sensuous and worth the money.'

Julian Coldrey, Full Pour, April 2012:
"And now for the big guns. I've deliberately tasted the 2010 Dowie Doole Shirazes in ascending order of price, as I find it endlessly fascinating how producers differentiate wines at various price points within their range. If the standard wine is all about drinkability, and the Cali Road character, the Reserve is concerned with packing as much in as possible. Without wanting to suggest its proportions are ridiculous (far from it), this wine is by far the most dense, firmly flavoured of the three. Oak is present, but I'm pleased the nose throws primarily fruit-driven aromas, really liquerous and rich, very much in the plum spectrum. These flavours aren't challenging; in fact, the aroma seems simply a much bigger, denser version of the entry level wine, more of everything in every way but never losing the rich ease of the region's Shiraz, which I adore. The palate, while fully flavoured, is most striking for its ease and flow. This is such a mellifluous wine, moving gently through the entry and middle palate, pushing intense plum fruit out from its brisk line to cover the tongue with flavour. There are prickles of acid at the edges, nicely fresh but mostly undisturbed by the thickness of the wine's flavour and its generous body. It's probably full bodied, but comes across more medium, because it's fundamentally a relaxed wine, keen to be drunk rather than dissected. I like the bright red swell through the after palate, and the silty tannins that settle on the finish are delicious. I've felt that some previous Reserve wines have been a bit oak-dominant and showy, but this is all high class deliciousness; sexy, sensuous and worth the money."
