Dowie Doole Reserve Shiraz 2016 - AUSVERKAUFT -

Artikelnummer: X158016

Beschreibung

Chris Thomas:

"A wine that is made without compromise, selecting on the best fruit, crafted with every detail in mind and maturated in only the finest oak barrels."

"Norjan" Vineyard (Doole), “74 Block”, McLaren Vale SA 5171

Fruit for the Cali Rd Shiraz is sourced from Norm Doole’s Cali Rd Vineyard from the most North-West Block on the Estate. This small block was planted in this vineyard in the year 2000 and due to its unique East facing aspect produces fruit of unique character and complexity. The block receives the early morning sun but is protected from direct sunlight in the late afternoon, allowing the fruit to reach flavour ripeness without the risk of over exposure.

Weinart: Rotwein
Viticulture / Growing: AWRI Sustainable Wine Growing Australia Certified

Barrique?

Winemaking:
Fruit is sourced from Norm and Jane Doole's California Road vineyard from the 74 Block. This was the first block replanted in 1974 and produces fruit of unique concentration and complexity.

The fruit was de-stemmed, crushed and transferred to 5 tonne ‘Fat-Boy’ fermenters where the wine was fermented on skins for a period of 12 days, with three pump overs daily. When dry, the must was allowed to soak for 72 hours post fermentation maceration to increase the tannin integration. The wine was then pressed straight into American Oak hogsheads. The wine Matured for 24 months in 36 month seasoned American oak hogsheads and puncheons, with 40% being new and 60% second fill barrels, previously used for the 2014 Cali Rd Shiraz.

Every barrel is then tasted to form the final blend. Creating a wine with a complex nose of dark berry fruit, choc mocha, star anise and cedar. Palate: The full-bodied palate, rich and generous. The special selection 36-month seasoned barrels have added weight and structure whist enhancing the fruit intensity - flavors of dark berries, blackberries, clove and dark chocolate. A complex wine with excellent tannin structure, amazing length and weight.

Vintage:

Crop levels in 2016 were slightly above average due to an excellent fruit set. Good rain in late January/early February gave the vines a much needed drink after a very dry spring. This sustained the vines during a mild February, ensuring the fruit could reach full flavour ripeness without excessive sugar levels.
