Rodney´s Vineyard Petite Sirah 2018

Waldbeeren, Cassis, Rauch und Teer, stoffige Tannine und eine süßliche Blaubeer-Vanillenote erinnern zusammen mit einer ganz dezenten Rauchigkeit an die ganz großen Weine im Stadium der jugendlichen Fruchtdominanz. Mit fast 5 Jahren ist der Wein noch jung genug, um einen damit zu flashen. Und reif genug, dass die Tannine schon surfbar sind, sprich: weich und mürbe. Hier liegt null Schotter auf der Piste. Probieren und Schwelgen. Wahnsinn, wie der läuft. Genau wegen solcher Weine von der "beautiful earth" Kaliforniens habe ich mal mit dem Import begonnen. Muss man probiert haben - und schlägt immer noch (fast) alles, was man für unter 50 Euro in Europa bekommt.

Vintage notes:
2018 started off cool and stayed that way for the duration of the vintage with no sudden heat spikes or early fall rains. This vintage reminds me of a couple of my favorite vintages like 2007 and 2012. Both vintages had ample yields, as did 2018, and were very moderate, allowing me to pick when the grapes were ready...
