Beschreibung

Single Vineyard Shiraz 2023

Winemaking: Destemmed as whole berries to open fermenters, cold soaked for 3 days under inert gas cover, then fermented at 22-28 degrees and plunged 2 times a day with a gentle pumpover during peak ferment. On skins for 8 days before pressing to 1 and 2-year-old French oak Hogsheads. The batches are kept separate through maturation and after 18 months, barrels are individually selected to showcase the very best this block has to offer.
Barrique? Ja.
Winemaker´s Comment: The Ambassador is sourced from our own vineyard, in the heart of McLaren Flat area. The defining feature of this site is the sandy soil, which produces wines of great fragrance and elegant structure. This is not typical McLaren Vale, which is often seen as a home for power and big structure. The parcels for our Ambassador Shiraz are idividually selected from the very best barrels. Carefull maturation and blending has produced a wine which is a true expression of the vintage. It has more finesse, with a savoury quality and with low oak impact allowing the wine to speak clearly.
Vintage: A later vintage with a cool and wet start fining up to later dry weather and evening ripening

A single vineyard Shiraz, from vines planted back in 1972, just 3,150 bottles made and under diam, this is a tribute to Les Burdett – and as every cricket fan will know, he is the legendary curator of the Adelaide Oval. Blending of the various parcels from the vineyard took place after eighteen months maturation in one and two year old French oak hogsheads. Dark red in colour, the nose reveals spices, redcurrants, mocha, licorice, woodsmoke, well-handled oak, plums and cloves. Alluring fragrances throughout. This wine has energy and focus with good acidity and sleek tannins. Of medium weight, it will drink impressively for the next ten to twelve years.
