Lake Chalice "The Raptor" Pinot Noir 2019 - AUSVERKAUFT -

Artikelnummer: X741319

Beschreibung

Flying High.

A limited release expression consisting of small parcels of fruit from our flagship vineyard, the Eyrie Vineyard in the Waihopai Valley Marlborough. We select fruits from only the finest of our harvest, integrating elements of barrel fermentation for a fuller body and increased complexity.

Eyrie Vineyard:
Eyrie Vineyard hosts vines almost two decades old. Situated in the picturesque Waihopai Valley on the southern side of the Wairau Plain, a high clay content in its soil profile is well suited to bringing out the best in the Pinot genus. This 11ha (27.5 acre) block is the single block source of our finest expressions of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris.

VINEYARD SPEC:
Varieties: Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir
Area: 11.1 ha. (27.4 ac.)
Soil: Well draining clay over gravel
First Planted: 2002

Winemakers comments:
This beautiful drop was harvested from the Waihopai Valley at precisely the right time to create a silky velvet, dark garnet coloured Pinot Noir.
The aroma is like a bike ride down a small laneway, lined with shops that burst with indulgent smells. In a single breath, you take it all in. The fruit seller with dark berries out front, the chocolatier, the aroma from the little cafe and at the lane end, the florist’s wildflowers and violets. Now, cycle around again. It’s time to taste. Rest your bike against the wall. From the fruit shop, pinch some ripe raspberries. Don’t worry, they didn’t see you. Stay a moment at the café, while the good looking barista serves you a slice of dark plum tart with a coffee. Delicious. As you stroll back to your bike, through an open door, you see someone carving a delicate wooden chair. You can taste the savoury French oak in the air.
Not your everyday bike ride.It might be time to pedal home. So you can crack open the full-bodied Pinot Noir that awaits.

Winemaking:
Sourced exclusively from the Reed Vineyard from 100%, handpicked fruit for controlled whole-bunch pressing. Fermented for a full 11 months in a selection of new and seasoned French oak barriques from 100% activated wild yeast. Undergoing malolactic conversion for a creamier texture.

Barrique:
Fermented in small, open top vats with a high frequency of hand plunging and whole bunch to allow for a fuller profile wine. Matured in select seasoned French oak barriques for 11 months.

Appearance: Deep garnet with a thin light rim

Bouquet: Aromatic floral notes with spices and toasty oak

Palate: Dense rich palate full of ripe black fruits, spices, and olive brine. A rich silky structure leads to a luscious full finish with toasty notes and savoury favours.
Cellaring: Enjoy from release or continue to age for 5 years or slightly longer.
Best served 14-18ºC

Vintage notes:
The 2019 vintage was an excellent vintage. Early flowering in the vineyards and a long warm ripening season meant the grapes were of excellent quality at harvest.

Your favourite recipe for this wine:
Well paired with roasted duck with an orange glaze and winter vegetables.

Presse (Auszüge):

The Real Review 26 Feb 2021:
Medium-bodied pinot noir with cherry, raspberry, fresh herb, grape stems and subtle rhubarb flavours. A crisp, vibrant, high-energy wine with lively acidity. 89

WINESTATE NZ Marlborough 2020: 4 stars
Well worth cellaring, this vibrant red was grown mostly in the Eyrie Vineyard, in the Waihopai Valley, and matured for 11 months in French oak barriques. Bright ruby, it is mouthfilling, with strong, fresh cherry, plum and spice flavours, well-integrated oak adding complexity and a very harmonious finish.
