Rubinrot funkelt der Wein im Glas. Aetherisches Bouquet von viel floraler roter Frucht, Zeder und feinstem Barrique umhüllt einen. Man denkt zuerst, der Wein sei zu vanillig-weich. So duftig, fast schwerelos dann am Gaumen, fein und superweich…und dann diese Samttatzen von Tannin! Und ein Vollbad von Pflaume und Crème de Cassis mit Anklängen an Himbeeren und einem Hauch von Nougat. Der kleine, verzögerte Stopp, den die Tannine in die Textur einpflegen, führt direkt in den langen Abgang und wirkt wie ein Zeichen für die nächste Runde; dass es mit dem nächsten Schluck wieder von vorne losgeht. Ein herrlicher Wein, der sich viel zu leicht trinkt. Und einer, den ich (auch wenn das natürlich ginge (8-10 Jahre locker) und ich vermute, dass er ähnlich einem großen Pinot altern würde) nicht weglegen werde, weil er sich in einer schlichtweg großartigen Phase befindet. He´s a smooth operator…

Viticulture/Growing: Der Wein ist nicht bio-zertifiziert.
Dry-farmed (Grenache) and deficit irrigated (Syrah). Nature-positive viticulture emphasizing biodiversity, native lifeforms and species coexistence by way of no-till, permaculture and polyculture practices. Agricultural floor managed through careful plant selection via hand-removal, mowing and grazing. Soil health managed through mulching, organic compost additions and animal grazing, including 48 head of sheep. All viticulture performed by full-time, in-house Linne Calodo vineyard team.

The 2020 Self Esteem comes from a panoply of blocks at three Linne Calodo estates: Winery Estate (Grenache Norte and Syrah Cold Shoulder blocks); Stonethrower Vineyard (Syrah Estrella and Syrah Backside blocks); and Oakdale Vineyard (Grenache Bam Bam, La Casa and Mid blocks). Collectively, these blocks form a wine that is naturally complex and multidimensional.
Spraying: Sulfur and Bacillus Pumilus for mildew control (organic)
Rebsorten: 90% Grenache, 10% Syrah
Barrique: Yes, 20% New French Oak, 80% Neutral 3-5 year old barrels
Winemaking: Native yeast fermentation. Aged in concrete, oak foudres and 228-liter French oak barrels. Complete Linne Calodo treatment— no additional expense spared from winegrowing through winemaking, but differentiated as a Slacker blend with an emphasis on softer edges and immediate approachability.
Winemaker´s Comment: Soft, floral aromatics of budding flowers mingle with hints of forest. Fresh, juicy raspberry pops on the pallet, with fine, persistent tannins.

The 2020 SeIf Esteem is a blend of estate-grown Grenache and Syrah, presenting a knockout balance of depth and approachability. Soft floral aromatics of budding flowers with hints of graham cracker and forest greenery. Fresh juicy raspberry floods the palate, with fine persistent tannins that slowly melt into the finish. Clean, juicy, fresh and flawlessly integrated. While Self Esteem is meant to be enjoyed young, the undertones of sage and cedar hint at acomplexity that is only just beginning to develop and, with time, may surprise.
