Pirathon Silver Label Shiraz Barossa Valley 2020
Artikelnummer: 171220
Beschreibung
Gestatten, Monsti!

Land: Australien
Weingut: Pirathon
Region: Barossa Valley
Weinberg(e): Pirathon owns and operates two vineyards in South Australia. The Pirathon Vineyard is located in the Barossa Valley grape growing region and consists of 52.14 acres (21.10 ha) of vines, with the earliest block dating back to 1970. Top quality grapes are sourced from our vineyard in north-western Barossa, this part of the Barossa is regarded as one of the finest districts for high quality wine. The grapes for Pirathon Shiraz are traditionally handcrafted in open top fermenters and pressed before maturing in barrel.
Viticulture/Growing:
Dieser Wein ist nicht bio-zertifiziert. Our aim is to run the vineyard as sustainably as possible. Minimal use of water for irrigation, under vine mulching to reduce weeds and moisture loss, mid row cover cropping to encourage microbial activity in the soils and using only organic based fungicides/pesticides are just some of the measures undertaken and all part of the mantra in the vineyard. All water used at the vineyard is sustainably sourced from river water, supplied generally at night by drip irrigation to minimise evaporation. Our canopies are moderate in size to allow for good air flow and minimize spraying.
Use of Glyphosat: No
Lage: The grapes were harvested from low-yielding vineyards in the north-western Barossa districts of Moppa, Belvidere, Koonunga, Ebenezer & Light Pass. The vineyards are traditional family growers.

Winemaking: Each vineyard was harvested at optimal maturity between March 1 and April 3. After fermentation, the grapes were pressed with a traditional press, and the wines were then filled to new and seasoned American, French, and Hungarian oak hogsheads for maturation for eighteen months before blending. The wine was bottled without fining.
Vintage: The 2020 growing season was of high quality with moderate to below average yields. A wet August allowed for good early spring growth, but frosts in September and November, combined with windy conditions during flowering, impacted negatively on crop levels. January was very hot and dry, but temperatures cooled during the harvest months of February and March.

Meinungen (Auszüge):
5 Stars & 95/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, December 2022 (2020 Vintage)
"Richly fruited and instantly appealing, the enticing bouquet shows black/blueberry, rich floral, vanillin oak and warm spice aromas. The palate displays excellent weight and succulent fruit intensity, wonderfully complemented by plump mouthfeel and layers of silky tannins. Flavoursome and delectably tasty. At its best: now to 2033."
94/100 Ken Gargett, Winepilot
"Now dubbed Silver Label, but still the great value, cracking and delicious Barossa red, from a range of sub-regions, that has been such a crowd-pleaser. Maturation is for a year and a half in a combination of American, French and Hungarian oak, some of which is new. An opaque, near black hue, the nose exhibits notes of chocolate, cassis, black fruits, warm earth, dried herbs, axle grease (in the most positive way), espresso, a smoky note and blackberries. Real intensity on the palate. Good power here, with noticeable grip and concentration. Fine, firm tannins and serious length. This will provide pleasure for a good ten to fifteen years"
