Beschreibung

A treasure holds no value until it has been fought for. Aspiring to create a worthy homage to something precious and revered, I sourced the hillsides to find the vines for this Cotes- du-Coast. I take no credit for the soul of this wine. Its lineage is ancient; its roots, deep. – Curt Schalchlin

"The afternoon was filled with books & a picnic in the seaside meadow. Satiated by quince & warm buttered sourdough sprinkled with fleur de sel - honeycomb, apricots & marcona almonds, you must have dozed off. You hear a gentle breeze rustling pages nearby and lift your head. The air smells of lime zest and the golden hued strawflowers which surround you."
Satt, dicht, intensiv. Hier ist nichts zart oder verspielt, hier wird eine Ansage gemacht: there can be beauty in all sizes. This richer, opulent white is geared for the dinner table and is impeccably made. I love it." Wir lieben ihn auch und hoffen, Sie haben ebenso viel Freude daran wie wir!

Winemaker´s Comment: Equally aligned with the freedoms of the New World and the heritage of the Rhône Valley, I am careful not to hold too closely to either. Tending fruit in vineyards that have captured my heart from Paso Robles down to Solvang, these sites speak for me and I for them; the only partners now on this path I tread.
Other Notes: Chill for 20 minutes in refrigerator, pull cork and enjoy. Wenn möglich, bitte aus dünnwandigen Gläsern (Josephine No. 2 oder Zalto Universal) trinken.
Meinungen (Auszüge):
Jeb Dunnuck, The 2021s from California’s Central Coast, Tasting Date 8/30/2023:
I continue to love the whites from Curt, and the 2022 Cotes du Coast showed beautifully. Honeyed peach, apricot, toasted bread, and some subtle nutty, earthy nuances all define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied, with a round, layered texture and a great finish. This richer, opulent white is geared for the dinner table and is impeccably made. I love it. (91)
James Suckling:
An aromatic nose of cooked lemons, peaches, herbs and some white flowers. Medium body with bright acidity. Vivid and agile with plenty of fresh citrus character throughout and a harmonious, suave finish. 48% viognier, 19% marsanne, 13% roussanne, 11% grenache blanc and 9% clairette. (92)
vintage38 wine bar:
Tangerine, white flowers, ocean air, lemon verbena. Palate has a smooth vanilla cream core, encased with orange blossoms, graham cracker and white pepper. White Rhone Blend of Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Clairette. Curt Schalchlin makes both Sans Liege and Groundwork wines, his passion sourced from the freedoms of the New World in winemaking and the heritage of the Rhone Valley.
Please The Palate Wine of the Week:
Sans Liege 2022 Cotes de Coast White Rhone Blend, Central Coast
When my friend invited me over for an end of summer outdoor barbecue, I had to bring a bottle of wine. I picked a white Rhone blend from the Central Coast thinking that it would be not only delicious but food friendly. And it was. That is why the Sans Liege 2022 Cotes de Coast White Rhone Blend, Central Coast is the Please The Palate wine of the week. The wine has beautiful inviting aromas of apricots, peaches, lime zest, and notes of honey and minerality. On the palate the wine is textured with a creamy midpalate and chalky acidity with a lingering finish.
Food Pairing
The Sans Liege 2022 Cotes de Coast White Rhone Blend is a beautifully textured wine that can pair with almost anything. We enjoyed this wine with a peach and burrata salad, cheeses, and barbecued chicken wings marinated in olive oil, Dijon mustard and paprika.
