Kalleske Fordson Organic Zinfandel 2021 (DE-ÖKO-039 / L22066) - AUSVERKAUFT -

Zinfandel ist zwar immer noch ungewöhnlich für Australien, gedeiht aber im Barossa gnadenlos gut. Troy Kalleske hat ein Händchen dafür, und der Fordson ist ein superklasse Zinfandel, wenn nicht der Beste Australiens.

"Fordson”, der Väter aller Trekker, machte ab 1950 auch den Kalleskes das Leben um einiges leichter, daher der Namen dieses Weines.

Der kleine Trecker auf dem Bild hatte sich schon in Schale geworfen, fliegt aber im direkten Vergleich doch sofort auf. Guter Versuch, aber - es gibt nur EINEN echten Fordson hier! ;)

Der Wein ist tiefdunkel magentafarben bis schwarz, schon das Bouquet verspricht Beeren ohne Ende, um am Gaumen dann ganz klassisch dunkelste, fast schwarze Pflaume, Kirsche und vor allem Blaubeeren zu präsentieren. Satt und rund ist er, weich und sehr lang, mit einem hintergründigen aber teerig-whiskeyfassmäßigen Barrique und feinen Tanninen.
Auch wenn er von einer Stunde Luft jetzt noch profitiert - wer gereifte Weine toll findet, sollte eher Weine aus anderen Rebsorten weglegen, denn auch wenn er sich bis ca. 2030 hält - trinken Sie diesen tollen Zinfandel jetzt und über die nächsten 5 Jahre, um seine volle, tolle Frucht zu genießen. Winemaking: Handgemacht (Schnitt & Ernte), ertragsarm. Ernte am 19. März. Die Fermenation fand mit den eigenen Hefen statt. 10 Tage auf den Schalen mit zweimal täglichem Umpumpen, ebenfalls per Hand. Dann Korbpressung und 12 Monate Fassreife in einem Mix aus gebrauchten französischen und amerikanischen Eichen Hogsheads (300-Liter).

TASTING NOTES:
2021 Fordson Zinfandel is deep crimson in colour.
The aromatics are super bright and exquisitely inviting. There is classic liquorice strap, blackberry jam, clove spice, raspberry and flowers. It’s very powerful and enticing.
The palate is full-bodied with intense ripe red and black berry fruits. It is so juicy with an attractive plushness giving a smooth background to the rich flavours. Only gently emerging at the end, the natural tannins are soft, allowing the luminous varietal fruits to shine full. This is an expressive and strong varietal wine that is completed with a very lingering finish. Approachable and fruit forward, Fordson Zinfandel can be enjoyed now or over the next five years.
GROWING SEASON:
Vintage 2021 was an exemplary year with fine wines and good yields. Growing season rainfall was marginally below average and temperatures were mild ensuring vine canopies remained healthy. Vintage weather was absolutely perfect throughout, with dry mild-warm days and cool nights ensuring even and steady ripening across all varieties. There is strong colour and flavour across all the reds along with excellent structure and balance whilst the whites are bright, fresh and elegant.
VINEYARD:
In 1853, the Kalleske vineyard and farm was established at Greenock in the Barossa’s North-West. For 97 years horses were used to work the vineyard and land. This changed in 1950 when a new type of horse-power arrived on the property, a ‘Fordson’ Major tractor. The Fordson soon became a valuable and integral part of vineyard and farm activities. Fordson Zinfandel (a.k.a. Primitivo) is a single vineyard wine that’s been grown, vintaged and matured on the Kalleske property. Vigilant grapegrowing combined with traditional winemaking and maturation in seasoned French and American oak hogsheads has resulted in a flavoursome varietal Zinfandel displaying classic structure and richness typical of the Kalleske vineyard.
