Dowie Doole Estate Merlot 2021

Alles, was man an Merlot liebt und schätzt, in einer Flasche: opulentes Bouquet nach üppigen schwarzen Früchten (Pflaume, Zwetschge, dazu etwas Vanille). Am Gaumen wird die süße Frucht abgefangen von guter Säure und dezentem Barrique. Weiche kuschelige Tannine, fein untermalt von würzigen, grünen Oliven und Walnuss. Sofort zugänglich: runde Aromen, weiche Tannine, großzügiger Abgang. Leicht gereift (ab ca.2024) auch sehr fein.
Dazu passt eine Trüffelpizza oder Boeuf Dijon.

McLaren Vale’s warm days and cool nights allow Merlot to reach optimum ripeness, creating a smooth, mouth-filling wine with rich berry and plum flavours.

Fruit for the Dowie Doole Merlot is sourced from the cooler, sandy slopes of our Tintookie Vineyard and the loamy soils of the California Road vineyard. The combination of fruit from these two distinctively different vineyard sites brings savouriness and richness, with fine tannins complementing the classic Merlot aromas and flavours.

Winemaker´s Comments:
The Estate Merlot is crafted from fruit from estate vineyards in the two terroirs of DOWIE DOOLE. The cool sandy slopes of Blewitt Springs exhibit the cooler, more elegant and herbaceous spec-trum of fruit. The fruit from the Tatachilla vineyard with its more Mediterranean climate offers riper and more generous fruit. Each block is harvested, fermented and matured in oak separately. After 20 months of maturation each barrel was tasted and assessed before the final blend was assembled. This respectful use of oak allows the fruit characters to shine. The DOWIE DOOLE Merlot showcases the best hallmark traits of a McLaren Vale Merlot. It is a balance of luscious red berries, herbaceous notes and a hint of spice.
Vintage notes:
The 2021 vintage was an amazing year in South Australia. A very mild year, with a lovely even ripening period. No extreme heat or rain events so we had the benefit of being able to pick the fruit at the optimum time without pressure from incoming weather events. The resulting wines from the 2021 vintage are bright and vibrant, showing excellent fruit expression.
